Isotope bone scan

Isotope bone scan
0 April 3, 2014

Scintigraphy is a sensitive but non-specific tool for the assessment of bone tumors. The value of technetium bone scanning in the evaluation of patients who have a bone tumor is in the detection of polyostotic bone disease or bone metastases. Bone-scanning cannot distinguish benign from malignant lesions, and it cannot accurately determine the extent of a tumor. Similarly, technetium bone-scanning of soft-tissue tumors is of little value except for the detection of metastases to bone.
