Surgical treatment of bone metastasis

Surgical treatment of bone metastasis

In selected solitary lesion with expected long survival the surgical treatment is the same as in a solitary bone sarcoma either a wide or marginal resection followed by reconstruction, (patients with metastasis from cancer thyroid, hypernephroma, solitary plasmacytoma, and melanoma and cancer bladder).

In cases with pathological fracture or impending fracture, prophylactic fixation may be done.

Decompression of the spinal canal with fixation and stabilization in patients with spinal canal compromise and cord compression.
